Subject: Favourite bands

Hi folks - I'm new to this list, but bear with me - I might have something
to contribute (despite only having Superunknown and Badmotorfinger at the
moment!)

>what other bands do soundgarden fans like?

I'm actually a Faith No More fan first and foremost (sorry! - I was on the
Faith No More mailing list before this one), but I obviously think
Soundgarden is brilliant or I wouldn't be here. I also like Aerosmith, Pearl
Jam, Alice In Chains, AC/DC.

Jackhammer.

I'm sure that almost everyone on this list has seen the video for
outshined. what I am wondering, however, is that is there anyone out
there who has seen a different version of the clip. I am assuming here
that the 'real' version is the one with the orange wash in the
background, and the old guy in the mouse-wheel thing. I saw the second
one late at night over here in australia on some program which featured
live music from various groups. it wasn't aired very often or for long.

the second clip had a big yellow look to it. it also had huge
pieces of clear plastic hanging from the roof, for the express purpose of
running into. it was reminiscent of the aic clip for we die young. so it
was basically the same, but with a different background. the cool middle
verse was still cut out, however.

so what I want to know is, what the hell is the second one? I
read an article in musician magazine once where they were talking about
their videos, and how the mtv version of their clip was not their best
one. someone from the band was saying that the director who was doing
the outshined clip was also doing the metallica unforgiven video, so he
couldn't concentrate soely on theirs (I think their's suffered). whoever
was talking about it (it may have been ben) said that later the director
came back to them with the real video. it was supposed to be a hell of a
lot better.

is this the better one? has anyone seen the one I'm talking
about, for that matter? I'd be interested to know, 'cause I've got both
on tape.

in bmg, they are classified as hard rock/metal. but once there was a box
with some other bands in it and the title of this box was alterna-metal.
it really surprised me!

Subject: Re[2]: Not Pop!

Something I've been thinking about for the past couple days was the
impact of videos on the way I listen to music. Generally, there are
at least two types (probably more, but) of videos. One in which
band/artist attempts to tell a story or blatantly spoonfeed the
literal meaning of the song. I call this type a concept video. The
other type is where the band creates video of the band playing on some
stage, cornfield, or rooftop and thats it. You don't see any
hollywood special effects, notable sports athletes, or barnyard
animals. Basically, its a no-frills live video, this the name, the
     NO-Frills video.

I started thinking about this when someone from the Soundgarden
newsgroup asked me what I thought the Black Hole Sun video ment. When
I starting thinking about the words of the song, images of the video
kept on popping in my head and it annoyed me because I had to struggle
to come up with my own opinion of the song. Dont't get me wrong, I
think that video was on of the best I've seen in several years, but I
felt it was infringing on my personal interpretation of the song.

On the contrast, the videos for Fell on Black Days and Spoonman did
not have this effect on me at all. So I'm kind of curious, what
everyone out there thinks about this....

     just my two (non)cents

Hey all:

I'm new on the block. My name is Dan

I have been trying to track down some SG live tapes. I heard that the
"Supermainstream" disc was excellent but haven't been able to find it
anywhere.

Would anyone be willing to tape the CD for me? I would be willing to
send a blank tape plus postage but I'd prefer to trade. I use Maxell
XLII or XLII-S tapes with No Dolby. My list follows.

They are: Crown of Thorns

             $44.00

             The Garden Growns
             Norway 94
             105 mins. - 2 CD
             $44.00

             Soundgarden - The Graden Growns
1 CD (no ref. to where it was recorded)
             $22.00

There is also a listing for a box set of 3 CD/Color Poster for The Complete
Show Lollapalooza 92 Vol. 1. (Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Lush, and Jesus and Mary
Chain) - $75.00.

Has anyone heard of the company or the CD?

Subject: just moved to Seattle

Since arriving in Seattle, I've had this great experience: I discovered the
site of the "hunger strike" video! I'm sure a lot of you know this already,
but it was really fun for me to be there. I came upon it unawares. I wanted
to go for a nice hike in a beautiful park, and I had read in Rolling Stone
Magazine that Discovery Park is Chris Cornell's fave getaway ("even my
littlest dogs go down there"). So off I went. I came to the top of these
white sand dunes, with an expansive view out over the sound... a big barge
moving in.... hey, a strange sense of Deja Vu. Yes, there were the tall
grasses in which Eddie stood. And the vista of houses behind Matt Cameron's
drum set - all delightfully familiar to me. I mean, I think I've watched
that video a million times. It's my absolute favorite! I love the beautiful
outdoor setting. Both Chris and Eddie are in it and they both have their
beautiful long hair (which is no more, sob, sob). But I'm getting off the
subject here. I took the 20 minute hike down to the beach and saw the
lighthouse that is in the video, too. Someone had said that it is the Alki
beach lighthouse, but they are wrong. There is no beach around Alki, and no
woodsy setting. I danced on that beach where they danced....YAY!

Being in Seattle is a good thing. I apologize to all those people who wrote
to me just before I left New York. I have been away from a computer for
over a month now. But I would like to get in touch with any Seattle people,
if you care to write to me again...

I've already met someone who is friends with Barry and Jeff Ament, and
another friend told me his old guitar was bought by Chris Cornell, it's in
the air, they're all around me...I'm going to see Inflatable Soule Friday
night, if anybody knows who they are.

             The Garden Growns
             Norway 94
             105 mins. - 2 CD
             $44.00

             Soundgarden - The Graden Growns
1 CD (no ref. to where it was recorded)
             $22.00

There is also a listing for a box set of 3 CD/Color Poster for The Complete
Show Lollapalooza 92 Vol. 1. (Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Lush, and Jesus and Mary
Chain) - $75.00.

Has anyone heard of the company or the CD?

Jamie

Jamie,
No I have not, however could you please send me the mailing address of
that cd company. I have heard of the Lollapalooza cd and form what my
sources tell me the sound quality was horrible. So I am assuming the Box
set cd that has sondgarden on it comes from the same source and would have
    the same sound quality.
        Muhammad

take a look at the OFFRAMP (its a bar/club). Its a pretty good place
     to see bands.

BTW, has anyone who's been to Seattle ever seen a band called Lazy
Susan. I saw them last year and thought they were great.

I mean, I think I've watched that
video a million times.
