Thought that I would share it with everyone on the list. Sorry it's such a long article. "Soundgarden's Cyber-Show. Fans can see European tour on-line. Soundgarden is offering U.S. fans a digital ticket to Europe. The recording artists, whose Superunknown has sold 5 million copies since spring, started a European jaunt Wed. in Dublin, Ireland. Those who can't make the show can still get its flavor; the band plans to document activities using two digital cameras, an array of computers and a creative crew. Photos will be digitally captured, captioned and posted hours after each European show to the Soundgarden Internet site (http://Rocktopolis.com/Soundgarden) and to a Soundgarden section on the new Microsoft Network (access GO MSMUSIC). The MSN site will have a pointer to the Internet site, which also includes fan club information, band data and teasers about upcoming projects. Besides pictures of the European performances, Soundgarden plans to hold a camera on each audience to get shots for the sites. Micole Mitskog, product manager at Microsoft, says the Soundgarden site will be up on MSN "at least six months to a year. It will probably evolve and will complement their Internet site." Soundgarden is also working with Microsoft on a music-plus-multimedia CD Plus, Alive in the Superunknown, set for October release. In addition, a Microsoft CD Plus demonstration disc, including a track from Soundgarden, will be bundled with new computers containing Windows 95, beginning this week. The CD Plus compilation will not be available on off-the-shelf copies of the operating system software." Now that you have all seen the article if anyone gets access to the demonstration disc with their new computer system or joins the Microsoft network please share with us. Well, I guess the cat's out of the bag. I've known that this was going to happen for while now, but didn't tell everyone because I wasn't sure when. The guy who is somewhat in charge of this project had assured me that I would be kept up to date about these things and that I would have a part in the official page, and perhaps even get the live feeds from the tour for my page. Naturally, he never called me back, so this is as much news to me as it is to you, and while it probably exceites you, it really pisses me off. Sorry about the ranting, but I hate when people make empty promises. Since I'm sure everyone will be checking out this site, there is a typo above: "Rocktopolis" should be "Rocktropolis" It really is a beautiful site; I wish I had the resources to make my page look like that. Now it's only a matter of time before I remove it altogether. seth ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 27 Aug 1995 10:19:43 +1000 To: somms@MIT.EDU From: mm328995@minmet.uq.oz.au (John Grieves) Subject: Soundgarden Guitar Tab If you look at sites which have guitar tablature (mind you, I'm not a guitarist, but I can try and convert the riffs to keyboards!) I notice that the guitar is often required to be tuned to some, well, let's just say unconventional tunings according to the tablature. Stuff like - --> Superunknown, Flower, Jesus Christ Pose, Let Me Drown etc. etc. (Dropped D tuning - OK, so this is a standard guitar tuning apart from EADGBE) - --> MY WAVE Tuning(low to high:E,E(down),B(down),B(up),B,B(down)) - --> Head Down (tuning (low to high) : CACGCE) - --> Mailman (Tuning(low to high:C,G,D,G,B,E)) - --> Seasons (tuning low to high FCFACF) What I'd like to know is, does Kim Thayil change his tunings in between songs when playing live or is he just so good that he works around these tunings - or are these tunings are load of garbage and Kim has this ultra special tuning which covers all songs? Or something else I've missed? All replies and thoughts welcome!- 'cos I've never seen Soundgarden live!
