Subject: SOUNDGARDEN LIVE

Dear all,
Well it's 8:45 on Tuesday morning and this is the first time that
i've had access to a computer since Sunday night when I SAW
SOUNDGARDEN. Not that i'm gloating but they were absolutely
incredible.
They only played a couple of songs from albums previous to the last
two including hands all over however when they were playing stuff off
of Badmotorfinger and Superunknown they really kicked ass as Beavis
and Butthead would say. I can't give an exact repertoire because I
didn't exactly take a pen and paper but I'm sure you can imagine what
they played if you just imagine all of the best ones 'cos they were on for
an hour and a half. Their music sounded like it does on their
pre-recorded and produced albums only they added bits to the songs
and let the songs run into each other, as to the tuning they appeared not
to change guitar more than two or three times throughout the concert
and one of these times was because Chris had gone a bit mental (at the
end of mind riot I think) and just hit his guitar strings untill about two or
three of them had snapped. Oh and by the way if you ever get the
chance to see them look out for the bass solo in the middle of Spoonman
It really rocks.
The main conclusion that I have come to is that if soundgardens next
album isn't up to scratch (blasphemy) it will still be worth going to see
them live because they are the most lively and extrordinary band I have
ever seen live and I have seen a lot of bands live in my relatively short
life. If you ever get a life threatening disease then make sure you see
Soundgarden before you die.

Hope this isn't too crap a review for everyone

                                                  Dan

Oh yeah, By the way why isn't anyone asking if Chris Cornell changes his
tuning as well as Kim. It could be because you have seen the Motorvision
video where he only plays guitar on a few songs. Well I have news for
everyone further to my earlier Reading Festival rantings, Chris now seems
to play guitar on all but one song in the latest set. He and Kim swap their
guitars at different times through the set so I would guess that they have
two guitars tuned differently on different songs which is a bit strange really.

                                          Gotta go again

Hey list!

first, did SG play ANY new songs during reading? Anyone heard of anyone
taping the show yet? get ahold of me if you hear of a tape or CD
circulating...thanks.

Night Surf:

Night surf is a Ben Shepherd instrumental-only 4 track recording. It was
played during the beginning of last years tour accompanied by Ben's
brother, Henry's, opening film.

The boys tried to get it released on one of SG's many euro singles last
year. But there was something about it not being a SG song (it's just
ben)

The only place to get a copy is off one of the bootlegs. Take a look at
my SG bootleg discography to see which one it's on.

hope this helps

mjackson was signing autographs at some music store and chris cornell walked
in, but he was asked to leave because more people were paying attention to
him than to mj. chris was pretty pissed and defaced (the person didn't know
if that meant set fire to or pissed on) a fiberglass statue of mj.

i don't know if this is true, but that's somebody said.
i don't remember there screen name either.

Hey Walter,

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but I got this bootleg
from Soundgarden's concert last June and it opens up with an
instrumental. The only thing is that the bootlegger called it "Schwinn
Intro." I'm not sure if that's right or not, but this is the same person
who called TDITTL, "One More Time Around" and "My Wave," "My Way!!"

i just picked up both of these CDs in used CD bins at a local store. HAHAHAHAH

Hater was released in '93. I think they took alternative music back about 4
years and added a twist of blues. I love it.

Pigeonhed sounds like a Fisk thing (it is)! Like NIN but not as vulgar or
agressive. Pretty cool.

[this is the same thing I posted to alt.music.soundgarden; I tried to
cc: it to the mailing list, but I'm not sure it got out to everyone,
so here it is again]

Just some things I thought I would share with everyone:

1. There are three images from Soundgarden's performance at the Reading
Festival available on the Web. They can be found at
http://www.cerberus.co.uk/cdj/readingcarlsbergmm/mm/live3e.html

2. Melody Maker magazine has a small bit about Soundgarden on the Web. Look at
http://www.cerberus.co.uk/cdj/readingcarlsbergmm/mm/soundgar.html

3. The August 26 issue of Melody Maker contains a full interview with
Soundgarden as well as a bonus cassette ("Reading Present") that includes
"Kickstand (live)"

4. As for the Chris Cornell/Michael Jackson thing, whatever happened was
probably fueled by the following, which I'm reprinting from the August 19
issue of Melody Maker:
			--------------------
Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell has made an astonishing attack on
Michael Jackson during a Maker Interview [note: this is the interview that
appears in the August 26 isssue].
The Soundgarden singer laid into Jackson after seeing one of the
infamous Jackson "HIStory" statues outside Tower Records on Sunset Strip.
Cornell raged: "That f***king guy makes me wanna puke! Sending a statue of
himself on tour! What the f*** is that all about? What a f***ing jerk. He's
got way, way, way too much f***ing money.
"You know how much his piece of shit record is selling for? Fifty
f***ing bucks!
"You know what I hope? I hope he's buggering Lisa Marie. That's what I
f***ing hope. And I'll bet you he is f***ing buggering her too. Shit, that
asshole. Elvis must be rolling in his grave. F***er!"
			--------------------

5. I've added a television interview transcription (thanks to Justin for the
contribution) to my Soundgarden site. It's accessible via the "Miscellany"
page.

That's all for now.
