Problem is, tickets are doled out almost a year in advance on some sort of lottery system. You can get stand-by tickets, which let you in if there are no-shows for the advanced tickets. To get stand-by tix, you need to show up to NBC studios(don't remeber the address, but won't be hard to find) pretty early on the saturday of the show. Since the SG & Jim Carrey show will undoubtedly be popular, you will have to get in line pretty early(6 am?) I don't know what time they will let you in. Anyway, after waiting there for a few hours, you will get a stand-by ticket for you choice of the dress rehersal (around 7pm), or the actual show (11:30?). When you show up for the show, you get in line again according to the number of the ticket you got that morning. Right before the show starts, they count the empty seats, and let in that many stand-bys. My friends and I waited in lines for about 5 hours that day, and we were around #50 in line, but they only let in about 10 people. Good luck if you decide it is worth it. According to the Saturday Night Live FAQ (the URL escapes me...but check Yahoo and the newsgroup alt.tv.snl). You must request tickets by August. (before the seasons's starts). They throw away all requests for tickets after that. Even then, due to the large volume of requests...you dont really have a chance to get tickets. Our only hope, beside's standing in line for 18 hours! Is for a 'miracle ticket' (as per dead shows). There is no other way to get them unless you *know* someone. So I ask...Is there a God? She brings credibility to the techno format. Her music isn't fully techno but the influences are there. 8) Temple of the dog. Some of the most emotional songs ever recorded 7) Sg "Ultramega Unknown" It was worth the $25 for the acoustic version of like suicide and the live version of beyond the wheel. On top of that the rest of the album kicks ass to. 6) Tears for Fears "Tears roll down Greatest hits" This band is more than just cheesy eighties music. They have written some beautiful songs. 5) Tribe called quest "Midnight Maurauders" , rap would be dead without thease guys. They really transcend the genre. They're music is more than just dire threats of violence. 4) Hater 3) Soundgarden Superunknown/Bmf It's always one or the other. Two of the best album of all time imho. 2) John Lee Hooker. "The Healer" On of the greatest blues muscians of all time. But he always seems to be overlooked. It's a shame though, this guy has been making great music for the last 50 years. Talk about career longevity. 1) Mad Season "Above" Tunes for a lazy summer day. Btw, I had a vision last night while listining to superunk, wouldn't half sounf great with a symphony orchestra arrangement? A piano playing the opening guitar riff, and then the whole symphony kicking in, and then a single violin playing the next one, and the whole string section kicking in. I could be and probably am insane but I think that would sound good. Oh yeah Mr sg is a nirvana rip off band?!!! I think that you are either joking or that you need psychological help. Kurt Cobain said that sg's louder than love was one of the most influential albums for him. Secondly ever hear the opening riff of sg's "Mood for Trouble", sounds kinda similar to smells like teen spirit doesn't it? Anyway I'll stop bothering everyone now. -Clown ------------------------------ From: Butt Mike Subject: in my eight-track. Uhhhh, What the heck have I been listening to lately? Well aside from BMF which is always in my stereo, I have been listening to stuff like: 1. NOFX: White Trash, Two Heebs and a Bean. There is a great cover of "Straight Edge" (Minor Threat) on this album as well as many other staple NOFX songs. 2. Minor Threat: Complete Discography. Ian Mackaye is the shit. I have been listening to Fugazi (Repeater) a lot too. 3. Deftones: Adrenaline. If anybody out there likes Korn you will love these guys. I like some of Korn's songs but a few of them suck. I haven't heard a lame Deftones song. Anyway, if you like a singer who can scream like a Banshee, this is the band. 4. Tool: Opiate and Undertow. The live shit on Opiate is cool. 5. Quicksand: Manic Compression. Quicksand R.I.P. 6. Wes Montgomery: any and all. I like Jazz a lot. 7.Faith No More: Angel Dust. Easily their best album. 8.Morrisey: Bona Drag. Honestly, I found this in my player the other day and I don't know how it got there. 9.Mr Bungle: There is no explaining these guys. 10.Helmet: Meantime(or Betty, Strap it On, Born Annoying) 11. All Zeppelin albums. I actually listen to these on vinyl and I am not even an old man. [or woman (see Carolyn) for that matter] 12. I almost forgot No Use For A Name: I dont know the name of the album, (I only have a recording) but before they turned into MTV punk, they were heavy as shit. It was Mettalipunk. (I listen to a lot of Mettalica too) The song Power Bitch is awesome. If anybody knows what that album is called let me know. That is about it, I will be in hog heaven when SG, Tool, Mettalica, and Helmet all come out with their new albums soon. Enough Already, Matthew. ------------------------------ From: leon bass Subject: on my cd player Currently big on my cd player is: 1. Garbage by Garbage as I saw them last tuesday in Wolverhampton(UK) and they were superb. Not a bad song on the cd and the opener Supervixen is amazing. 2. Further Down the Spiral by NIN. I just love NIN and even if the music is depressing it is also extremely emotional and sincere. 3. The World is a Vampire by Smashing Pumpkins(boot). The pre-release show from Chicago. I know that some of you don't like SP but I think they are brilliant. I will be seeing them in May and am well looking forward to it. 4. Welcome to the Rodeo by Blessed Ethel a band from my tiny home town who rock big time. Unsigned and virtually unheard of- but still superb. 5. Perserverance by Terrorvision. What can I say about Terrorvision? Quite simply the best British band around. Oasis, Blur quit complaining Terrorvision are our biggest and best band. 6. Later on today it will be the new Stone Temple Pilots album which will be brought shortly after I finish doing this. 7. Finally. Be Special by Joyrider. Irish and superb. A little like Therapy? and just as good. Here are my humble contributions: 1) To Joco Agostinho: Though Chris rocks my world etc., Eddie's "Footsteps" is the better of the 2 versions. Now before anyone out there gets their panties in a knot, hear me out. Granted that Chris' version is a moving interpretation of Stone's music, Eddie's version is much more emotional. I mean, listening to it gives me goosebumps (I know it sounds cheesy and overtly dramatic, but the truth nonetheless). Added to the fact that Eddie wrote it for "Mamasan" (the 3-song (Alive, Once, Footsteps) mini rock opera) gives it that touch of bristling anguish that Eddie's so good at delivering. Just an opinion. 2) To Caryn Rose: What songs should SG cover? Well, we've heard Chris, Matt, Jeff Ament, and Mike McCready cover Hendrix's "Hey Baby(Land of the New Rising Sun)" on "Stone Free", and that, should you be asked, was so good that my ballsack crept up deep within me. Good tune. I would like to hear SG cover Hendrix's "The Wind Cried Mary", Led Zeppelin's "Over the Hills and Far Away", and the Beatles' "Why Don't We Do It In The Road?". IF they were to do so, I would probably lose all self control and spray everyone in a 50 foot radius with body fluids. 3) To Eric Gardner: What CD's are residing in my CD player? Here goes: a) SG:Songs from the Superunknown EP. Good lovin right here. b) Soul Coughing:Ruby Vroom. Acid Jazz Hip Hop. They are both the tit and the shit. c) PJ:Surfer Eddie's Sunshine State. The only boot I have where Eddie sings "Crazy Mary" (with Victoria Williams, to boot!). d) Mad Season. In my opinion, better than the new AIC album. e) Rage Against The Machine:Bombtrack single. TO ALL RATM FANS!!! GET THIS SINGLE!!! IT HAS 8(!) UNRELEASED TRACKS!!! f) Beatles:Let It Be. Despite the fact that they were basically broken up, one of their best albums. g) Brad:Shame. Stone's side band. Very mellow. Now I will ramble on aimlessly: a) Is it me, or is Chris the one guy (besides Eddie) who can scream and still make it sound masculine? I would pay much money to have his vocal range. b) What's up with all these bands getting worse? SG is the only one who's improved. PJ just went downhill. Vitalogy was worse than VS. was worse than Ten. Then again, Ten is one of the best albums EVER, so it's kinda understandable. Then there's AIC. What the heck?! What happened?! Granted that there are some cool songs, it ain't no "Dirt" or "Jar of Flies" or (especially) "Sap". The latter is (in my opinion) AIC's best album. Mr. Cornell even makes a guest appearance in "Alice MudGarden". Nirvana...well, we won't go there. RHCP - given that Flea still spanks a nasty funk riff, they just lost the funk factor. "One Hot Minute" is good, but it ain't no "Blood Sugar". Faith No More - now known as Band No More. Boy, they lost it after the departure of Jim Martin. Sigh. I'm just gonna sit here and sulk (and wish for a new Temple of the Dog album to come out). Check you all out later, Dun - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - -------------- "Cretins! Fools! I bought the alternative nrg cd the other day, and I'm really impressed with the version of new damage soundgarden recorded for it. the badmotorfinger original is almost subtle compared to it. matt's drumming is much heavier than what he put on the album version, and chris is in a real zone. he does this scream at the start and it goes for about ten seconds! the guitar sound is chunkier, and somehow the riff sounds even bigger and more dangerous. the lead break by brian may sounds ok, but it doesn't improve the song that much, as kim's bridge riff still crushes everything else :) it just a blistering version, and I recommend it to everyone. btw, the dates for soundgarden's upcoming tour aren't up on the a&m homepage yet, but what can you expect? ----------------------------------- a thousand doors, a thousand lies rooms a thousand years wide ----------------------------------- ------------------------------ From: ShRooMGrLz@aol.com Subject: Kickstand revisited... This is the last call for votes. If you haven't voted yet, DO IT NOW. The totals that I see tomorrow night will be the final totals, and from the looks of it, we're going to have a fork on our shirt. When the voting is over, the designer of the fork will be called upon to provide Nothingman with the images so that these shirts can go into production soon, given that there are no objections to this. There is, unfortunately, one more issue to be discussed. We can either have the fork on the front and the "somms@mit.edu" rather large across the top of the back of the shirt (a la the "Superunknown" shirt) or we can have the fork design on the back and the "somms@mit.edu" on the front where a pocket would normally be. seth ------------------------------ From: rc@gcc.cc.md.us Subject: Re: Soundgarden Digest, Monday, 25 Mar 1996 DA>2) Lenny kRavitz - Are you gunna go my way....NOTHING beats the first DA>song off that album YES! Then I'll just get the font everybody wants (I'm on my way to the voting page, for the very first time!) and show the guy to see how much it'll cost. I'll also ask him about some other stuff that's been discussed. And I think everyone seems to want the tan (natural, off-wjite, whatever you wanna call it) color, right? I like the idea of having the fork on the back, so then those of us who already have forks won't look stupid with two of them on their chests. I've never really been a fan of shirts that have stuff bigger on the front than the back, anyway. I just think it would look better. My tastes (except for my passion for SG) are either very different, or I've just been out of touch since I had my kids. Anyway, I decided that I would be a good illustration of the differences that make us and this list special. Well (sigh) here goes. Besides my rather sizeable collection of Soundgarden CD's, EP's, Singles, and Bootlegs, which I rotate through on a regular basis (just can't pick a favorite SG), I also listen to: 1) Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine - I get the feeling that there's some anti-NIN feelings here, but I still find old Trent's stuff cathartic. 2) The Grateful Dead - Europe '72 3) Hole - Live Through This 4) The Doors - LA Woman and The Soft Parade 5) Nirvana - Incesticide and In Utero There, that wasn't so bad (please be kind). Kathie ------------------------------ From: Geoff Subject: Re: and the naked floor is cold as hell... Uh, Nothingman? I think the whole point of posting the pictures of the t-shirt designs and voting for them was so that we would know what we are getting. Is that not right?? Now, I'm not doubting your artistic skills, which you may or may not have, but I think you should just get the design from the artist and that way we get what we pay for. Doe anybody else agree. I for one do not want to pay for a shirt and all the shipping to Canada if I find it looks like hell. >>>-------------------------------> Geoff Kleemola gkleemol@io.uwinnipeg.ca U of Winnipeg Psychology student http://www.uwinnipeg.ca/~gkleemol <-------------------------------<<< On Mon, 25 Mar 1996 rc@gcc.cc.md.us wrote: > SA>This is the last call for votes. The short film with that song along with other SY songs and other cool New York pre alternative is mainstream bands is available on the video under the name Hardcore part 2 or maybe part one and can be found in your cooler cult type video stores. The videos Hardcore part one and two are somewhat of an acquired taste (like you acquire an illness) but the soundtrack is pretty good and I find them interesting and entertaining. It's a good one, I > promise. Looks just like Chris'. No, this is not a good idea. I made a call for designs a long time ago, and now that we're on the verge of deciding on one, I don't think you should just go out and make a different one and use that. I would assume people have been voting on a shirt thinking that the graphic they choose will be the one that is actually going to be on the shirt, so now is *not* the time to add designs. We could add your fork design whenever you get around to doing it, but that would mean that everyone is going to have to vote again. I say that we go with what we have and get this done. > I like the idea of having the fork on the back, so then those of us who > already have forks won't look stupid with two of them on their chests. > I've never really been a fan of shirts that have stuff bigger on the > front than the back, anyway.
