>anyhoo, i think that on Outshined Chris says Shedding because, with six
>albums, i only really know two songs with bad words (big dumb sex,ty

>song like Outshined should be marred with a shocking word like that.

he's got a point. given the right context, swearing can help to get the =
point
across, but if not it only detracts from the song.

>PS: Regarding favourite vids. I must admit I'm a big lover of Rusty Cage
>and Jesus Christ Pose videos, but I find I'm hard to pushed to separate
>my love for the songs from the videos themselves. My all time favourite
>Soundgarden video would be Black Hole Sun. Something about that fast
>scrolling dark cloud in the shots of the band that does it to me every
>time...and now every time I see low level cloud whizzing by in the skies=
,
>I think of the Black Hole Sun video...

i'm really happy to see that ppl aren't afraid to give BHS the credit it =
truly
deserves... back in spring '94, as i was slowly, and unwittingly, being
captivated by the song, i remember reading in billboard or somewhere
that there was a vid. i couldn't wait to see it, and it wasn't long befor=
e i got
the chance to. at first i was sort of startled- i really didn't know what=
 to
think. what exactly was the point being made? (if something grabs my
interest, no matter what it is, i always look beneath the surface, i alwa=
ys
find myself reading into things). it seemed like there was a really thin =
line-
in both the song lyrics and the vid- and depending on which side of the
line i chose to stand on, which way i interpreted it, i'd either love it =
or hate
it. well, the more i listened the more i fell in love, the more i watched=
 the
more fascinated i became. that summer, BHS the song, and BHS the vid,
became my all-time favorites. never before had i been *so* profoundly
touched by a work of art... and lately everyone's been talking about what
makes a true fan, and a lot of ppl seem to think that if you don't have =
all
their work, if you don't know everything about them, you can't be. well, =
at
that point in my life, i didn't own *one* of their albums, i'd heard
"spoonman" and "outshined" a few times before on the radio, and i knew
absolutely nothing about them- save for the fact that they'd created one =
of
the most amazingly beautiful songs i'd ever heard... and i loved them, =
and
i knew that i always would.

*thank god* for closed captioning! a few weeks ago my friends and i
were having Jack Fest '97, and for some reason, in a lot of those movies
from the late '60s & '70s ("easy rider", "the last detail") you literally
*cannot* hear what they're saying the sound quality is so poor. i've
never used it for anything else tho.

>Hmm...kinda made it tempting to shoplift (heheh, wouldn't want the
>security guards to arrest me or anything! ;o)

it's funny. there aren't many Sg fans where i live, but there sure are
plenty of chris clones! i've seen a few at various local punk/hardcore/ska
shows, and one time my friend who works at IGA (grocery store) saw one
who was from belgium or somewhere, on vacation at one of local resorts.
but the chris-a-like sighting that i'll never forget happened 2 summers ago
when we went to see the ramones. it was a great show, but what really
made my night was turning around and seeing this kid, probably about 19
or 20, who looked almost *exactly* like chris, even the same eye color.
then, a few minutes later as if by fate, "outshined" came on. =) the whole
time my friend & i were debating whether or not to go over and tell him,
but by the time we decided to, the opening act took the stage & after
that we lost him in the crowd.

>he or she starts acting even more stupid because their very
>over-enthusiasm tells me that the only thing they know about SG is what
>they've seen on MTV. Sorry for ranting, but that drives me nuts.

it sends me to the moon and back too, but really the best thing to do is
just feel sorry for them and ignore them. or hate them and ignore them. i
hardly ever even notice they're there... there *is* a rush i get from the
crowd, but the greatest joy is the very reason that i've travelled all that way
in the first place- to see the band. it doesn't matter if there're several
thousand other ppl there, or several hundred or less, and it doesn't
matter if some, most, or *all* of them are trendies or bandwagoners, b/c
they're completely insignificant once the band takes the stage. at that
point it's me, and it's soundgarden, and the earth and the sky.

That's true, Jeff really was an unparalleled talent. altho, covering his
songs would be a way of both paying tribute to him and carrying on what
he's left behind.... but you're right, his fans deserve to hear his legacy,
and he deserves for his work to be heard the way he intended.

while browsing thru Alive in the Superunknown CD-rom i stupidly just
figured out that if you click anywhere on the screen while the vid is
playing, lyrics appear..
and in FOBD it just says "hands are for shaking" and nothing else.. so
what gives? i'm positive i hear "not tying.. no not tying.." and if
that's right, why wouldn't it be written with the other lyrics?

ahh back to the confused lyric thread.. (yeah yeah, i'm sorry
*sheepish*) with these NEW and exciting lyrics on the screen i've found
many things that i've ALWAYS screwed up..
how's "i loved that i was alive" instead of "learned that i was a liar"
and
in TDITTL "would you say.. [you] never seem to live up to the ones
inside your head" instead of "words you say never seem to .etc.."

i dunno.. maybe i have too much time on my hands.. eheh
dammit there's no red lobsters in aussie.. *pout*

hee hee this makes me laugh.. one single word could not possibly marr a
SG song.. no way! they're too awesommmmmmmme :)
and as for shocking? i dunno.. that's opinion only..

shedding or shitting..? chris probably sang them to sound similar so
people could interpret it their own way.. those who would be offended if
it was "shitting" could be satisfied that it was "shedding".. and if
anyone craved for a 'bad word' they could enjoy that little "shitting"
added in there..
ha! who knows..

watching that show for the next couple of weeks.

Just thought I'd mention it in case you wanna see and they actually do
play it.

Well Chris also says "Fuck it up" in Gun so that is three songs he cusses
in. Not counting Outshined, 4 if you do. Umm, I can't do a complete
total though because I don't have a vast collection of B-sides.

There are two possiblities. Cds, beleive it or not, actually vary in
size. Some are thicker than others. If your drive in CAV (hence it
spins the CD), it could be scratching it. The other could be that your
drive does not have the correct support drivers for a CD+. If it doesn't
and is CLV then it will spin the CD for the read ahead on the data part
and then drop the CD to the resting place (causing the scraping noise)
and then read ahead the audio part, dop it again and read the data part
again in an unending loop. This is most likely on a win95 system with an
older CD rom drive. Especially a 63 minute drive.

well let's see...

chris sings at least one of the 7 dirty words on....

Gun - "fuck it up"
Big Dumb Sex - um...."fuck you"
Kyle Petty, Son of Richard - "daddy didn't raise no fucking fool"
Ty Cobb - "fuck you all"

um...chris has a weird homoerotic lyric thing happening in the middle of the
boot 7" for "S>P Rock City (live)".

Kim sings? about his penis in "Exit Stonehenge"...a southern baptist would
probably find that word offensive, so you can include that.

He doesn't sing 'shiting' in "Outshined. It's 'shedding'. Didn't you know
the grass is always greener over the septic tank? Think metaphoric
physics...like cartoon physics only more analytical.

nope, no video for Ty Cobb. the single itself was released after the
band broke up (choking sound goes here), which i'm still confused as
to why that happened. but to answer yr question, no- no TC video will
be made or was ever made.

Subject: Yet more look-a-likes!

Hey guys, i forgot all my Kim look-a-likes! i have seen tons of Kim's
wandering the parimeters of Pennsylvania!
One night i was up at the mall killing time with a friend before we
headed over to see the Howard Stern movie. we're walking along, and
in front of CVS lo and behold stands KIM THAYIL! i of couse yelped
"it's KIM!" which caused her to look and her jaw to drop when she
realized how right i was. (btw, she can't even look at Kim photos,
some weird nerousis about his eyes or something... I LOVE YOU KIM!)
so the guy walks into CVS, and i say "lets go follow him!" Of couse,
that is totally ridiculous and kinda silly, but i was in a silly mood
and hell- the guy *looked* like kim thayil. Well, anyone who's ever
been in a CVS knows how the ceiling has those weird mirrors on it
that show people walking, but kinda in a reverse manner so it's hard
to tell where exactly the person is. Anyways, we went into the CVS
and didn't see him anywhere, so we looked up and he was walking away
from us. er, or so we thought. She goes "oh look! there he is!" then
we look down and the Kim clone is directly in front of us and she
blurts out "Oh there he is right there!" and the Kim grins and walks
past us as we dissolve into laughter. sure, it's a dumb story, but
the guy looked almost identical to a young Kimmy. And we saw him a
few more times that night and waved once or twice, but the guy never
really acknowledged us. = (
and later that night, as we stood in line to get into the movie, yet
another Kim clone came strolling by us, this one even closer than the
last one. = )
and this guy who works at this gas station near me IS kim's
identical twin w/o the long hair. beard and everything. my mother
hates how everytime we drive by there, i say "Hi Kim!" = ( but what
do parents know, eh?

= ) thanks for listening to my Kim babble. = )
