Anyone see Chris pulling an Ozzy Osbourne or Alice Cooper on the musical
industry? One issue I haven't seen discussed is just how easy it is to keep
a voice like that at around 50 years old. Didn't Robert Plant start to wane
in ability? When do you think we'll hear Chris scream again since he hasn't
been lately? And if he doesn't... will that make him less unique?

Hi guys!

This is an introspective time of year, isn't it?

A couple of days ago, Niki wrote:
 Chris, chris is
now letting his hair kind of grow back out. Mid-life crisis? Chris?
hell, maybe. maybe that's why he was no longer comfortable inside the
term "soundgarden" and had to get out and be Chris Cornell, not SG's
CC anymore.
Maybe he's just worried about his future now, how
he's going to age peacefully. maybe that's why he's hitting the solo
Cornell stage of his musical life, and maybe personal life as well.
He just needs to, perhaps. Maybe it's all a faze, maybe it's just a
recent state of mind, but then again maybe it's who he's been all
along.

This is pretty deep insight for someone who's in her first year of
college. Niki, have you thought about a psychology degree? :) OK,
here's my take on this. I'm going to try to be brief because I know
that y'all don't want to read "Dagny's Journey of Self-Discovery." I am
a year younger than Chris, so I'm in the same life-stage he is. There's
something about your early thirties (if you're a thinking person) that
makes you examine your life and where you're headed. I'm not going to
share what's gone on in my life this year because it's just too
personal, but I have finally come out the other end of it and I'm at
peace with where I've ended up. I can only hope that Chris will be able
to say the same thing. Life can really throw you for a loop sometimes,
and it can become difficult to remember what's truly important. I think
he's just hit that time where he needs to find his true self and his
true purpose. I sure hope this isn't a mid-life crisis, like Jenny
said!! He's just now hitting his stride! About the hair thing, isn't
it amazing how hairstyles can inspire such debate? I don't think Chris
is trying to look younger by growing out his hair. From personal
experience again, I grew my hair back out last year too, so now I look
just like I did 10 years ago. Not because I want to look younger, but
because that was how I looked when I was most true to myself. How you
look, how you dress, how you wear your hair is a reflection of your
authentic self. It's the way you want other people to perceive you.
(This is why fashion victims send the message: I am a sheep; I have no
self-identity.) Perhaps Chris feels most comfortable with himself when
his hair is long. As far as I'm concerned, he could wear a clown wig
and I would still love him, but that wouldn't be the true Chris
Cornell. Kathie, who started this, wondered if it would be difficult
for Chris to mature after having been the focus of much heavy
breathing. I honestly think that he couldn't care less about that. I
really do think he'll find his own path, just as the rest of the guys
will. I'm still saddened by the break-up, but I understand that the
guys need to be able to be themselves, just like the rest of us. I'm
sorry about the length of this post; I guess I'm making up for lost time
since I've been quiet for awhile.

I wish everyone a merry Christmas, a happy Hannukah, a peaceful
Solstice, and Joy to all. :)

Life Rules!

You probably did, but the point has somehow been lost. I myself am 39, so I in
no way think Chris is OLD, but he is AGING, as we all are. And I just wondered
what it must be like for a person thrust into the public as a "sex symbol" to
get older, and try to do so with dignity (unlike so many rock stars who try to
maintain that teeny-bopper like status) and to have people still mooning over
10 year old pictures and some going so far as to wish he still looked that
way. I mean we've had whole discussions right here about whether we liked the
"long-haired" Chris or the "short-haired" Chris better. Personally I think
that's pretty depersonalizing, and I just wonder if it bothers him at all
(probably not - but I didn't think it bothered Michael Hutchence either). I'm
not saying Chris is going to kill himself, I was just thinking out-loud. When
I found out he had cut his hair my first thought was "It must have gotten too
hot". My opinion of Chris doesn't rely on his looks because I will always
think he's gorgeous, no matter what he looks like, because I like what's
inside even more.

Jen wrote:

But it is, just as turning 1 is aging.

And Chris looks like Chris. But your point about Matt clarifies my point
because Chris does look different, and also acts much different on stage. And
to me his changes are natural and healthy because personally I think he'd feel
foolish acting and looking like he did when the band first started. In fact, I
believe that the "sex-symbol" Chris wasn't the "real" Chris anyway. Kim has
said how when he first met Chris he thought he was a Marine or something
because of the way he dressed and had his hair.

> I don't think of '92 as a

Actually I was thinking more like 1988 - 1990, but even that isn't that long
ago in terms of years. But...when you think of it as the difference between 26
and 32 years old there is a big difference, maturity wise.

I guess I'm wondering what people are going to think when Chris' album comes
out - I'm anticipating that some people are going to be very disappointed
because it isn't Soundgarden-like enough for them. And that's all a part of
Chris growing and changing. And I just wonder how he feels about it all. God,
I wish I could just sit down and have a cup of coffee with him and talk.

On the topic of Mr. Cornell, I'm very interested in what you all think the
Album cover art will be like. Considering the obvious thoughts on him
maturing, I doubt we'll be seing an LTL cover or Screaming Life cover, and
probably not even a picture of him at all. Except maybe a DOTU sillhouette
type thingie. I don't know I just think it would be an interesting topic of
discussion, what do y'all think?

Merry Christmas to you all and to all a good night...or something. On the
Chris Cornell Album cover. I bet it will be something like superunknown or
DOTU...Maybe a Distorted picture of him on the cover or something, the
inside maybe himself in more distorted pictures and maybe a couple of
normal pictures. More importantly though is the music. What is going to
be like? Is it going to be all acoustic and sort of wimpy or is Cornell
gonna throw in some Hard Rock songs as well. If he does do an all acoustic
or wimpy set ,I would be very disappointed in him for doing that. Didn't
he say that it would be stupid for him to do a solo album with only
acoustics? Thats why i'll be disappointed in him. I really got into
Soundgarden for their power and energy. I hope he doesn't do that or he
might lose one fan...

Maybe for the cover art of Chris's album it would be like SFTSU with his
face all blurry and stuff. That would be cool. And abot Chris
aging....Hes not old. I dont consider 33 old. Maybe once he hits 40 then
we should discuss this. But when he dies get around that age...he's
going to be like Charelton Heston. He may be old but he'll still be a
good-looking guy.

Subject: SG Santa

Well, it's about time for old Santa to be packing up the sleigh, and
I'll bet he's taking lots of SG cd's for the old sleigh stereo. What
better to listen to on a long, cold night of overwork? And there's so
much there he can relate to.

"...slip down darkness to the light..." as he squeezes through another
chimney.

"...give up to greed, you don't have to feed me..." as he's confronted
with yet another bribe of milk and cookies.

And as he's cruising in that supercharged sleigh, passing all those
airplanes "...coming up on your right, coming up on your right, faster
than a fucking flash of light..."

Ah, yes, " and I heard him exclaim as he drove out of sight,
'Hard-headed fuck you all! Ho-ho-ho...." (could you blame him?)

Anyway, warmest wishes to you all, whatever holiday you celebrate.

About this whole Chris aging and the sex symbol status, Brad Pitt is a year
older than Chris Cornell and isn't he considered the "sexiest man alive" or
something?

I strongly doubt that the album would be all acoustic. After all, he
wrote most of the music on DOTUS. I think everyone is getting the wrong
impression that Sunshower is what Solo Chris is going to sound like. I
think that Chris wrote Sunshower to go along with the story Great
Expectations and that Great Expectations inspired it somehow. Although the
only Chris Cornell songs we have heard, Seasons and Sunshower, have been
acoustic, I think that his solo album will not be anymore than
half-acoustic. As for the cover art, I strongly doubt that there will be a
picture of him on there. Chris isn't that vane. If there is a picture, it
will be distorted to the point that you could hardly tell that it is him.

hello everyone--

First, I'd like to wish a Merry Christmas to everyone who celebrates it
today...
They played Ave Maria on the radio!!!! They were playing all these cheesy x-
mas songs on the radio tonight on this station I hate (92.3 krock) but I was
in the car, so it was just on. Then all of a sudden, they just played it. I
was so surprised, and so happy, it made me cry, and I couldn't stop for about
a half hour. It really made my day, and made my x-mas even better. And my
parents think Chris' voice is beautiful:) There were no dj's working so no
one said anything about it. Has any other station played Ave Maria?? Happy
holidays!
