I've only seen this record once, so maybe it isn't terribly available here
in australia.

I had a listen to it (just the tracks matt plays on, because I don't
really dig their music), and it was pretty average. the drum mix sounded
odd, not in a good way, had a weird groove and was just plain difficult
for me to get into, personally.

I got the impression that matt hadn't had too much time to jam or get
things very straight before his tracks went down. that might be way off
track, but it sounded too...something. not fluid, or something. I don't
know.

do keep in mind that I only listened to it once, and not all the way
through. it might be way better than I give it credit for.

I know it's been a little longer than a week since the site went down for

bear with me. It will get done eventually...

You people dissapoint me. I've only had like 5 people try for my
extra copy of SOMMS, and they are the most general answers I've ever
seen. ("Did Matt use the bathroom there once or something?") What the
fuck is that? The answer is not like that. It's kind of like one of
those association games.. like that Kevin Bacon game or whatever. And
it's REAL EASY if you know your stuff.
Sadly, I had one fucker who already own SOMMS try to bribe me with a
copy of SuperU on blue vinyl. I guess he can't read or something. I
was tempted, but he is dead now, so don't worry about that....

ONE LAST HINT, for those of you who don't know, UCSD = UC SAN DIEGO.

You have less than 24 hours to comply. I will announce the winner
tonight.

OK peeps, I'm gonna trek down to a record store here and I know for a fact
they have _SU_ on colored wax for 35 bux. Problem is I don't know what color
wax cuz it's not opened. If I snag it and it's orange is there anybody on
here that would want it? I'd only be asking what I paid for it plus whatever
shipping would be. E-mail me privately if you're interested.

Ok peoples, we have a winner; one Kelly Burnett, who claims she
spent hours researching UCSD and Matt Cameron to get the correct
answer... now there's a true fan. So what is the answer? Sit tight,
you slag, I'm going to tell you right now:

The answer is: Matt Cameron used the bathroom there once. Just
kidding.

Matt Cameron is originally from San Diego
The move "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" was filmed in SD
Matt Cameron was in a band that had a song in the soundtrack.
The UCSD Library (which is a wierd, inverted pyramid/diamond shape)
played the role of evil mother ship of the tomatoes in the movie.
There you have it folks, the connection between Matt Cameron and the
UCSD library.

PS, for those of you who care, look at some pictures of the library
at http://gort.ucsd.edu/sj/cul/ . It will blow your mind.

PS, the real winner was my brother, but he already has SOMMS and he
cheated.

Subject: Press kit for A&M--bids?

Hi folks! In all the excitement of Jordan's great trivia contest, I just
wanted to post one more time about this press kit Lin is offering to the
list. Just a reminder, if you're interested, bid before Sunday! It's
going once, going twice....

>OK, list....here's a choice item Lin just gave me. Allow me to describe it
and let's see how it goes as a bid item....
>
>Press kit....This appears to be a press kit A&M put out shortly after
Sgarden signed with them. If you've ever seen stuff like that you'll
understand what some of this stuff is that I'm describing--it's an intro to
the band.
>
>There are 2 stapled packets of xeroxed articles, stuff A&M collected that
mentions Sgraden or early articles on them. This is typical stuff a label
does to tout a new band, sorta like"hey, look at the press they've received
already." There's stuff from sources like Spin, Rolling Stone, and there's
some big article from A&M Publicity also. There are a number of publicity
releases from A&M, from October 89 to July 93. There are 2 Chris Cornell
quote sheets from May/June 92 (same thing), 2 copies of a June 92 bio on
the band, and a bio from December 93.
>
>No press kit is complete without promo photos and there are 4 in this one.
All are 8x10 b&w. One is of a car...a Firebird w/ the BMF logo and
"Soundgarden" on its door....not sure of the meaning of it. Next is a
group shot--Kim to the front framing the shot w/ his hands, the other guys
behind him. CC is shirtless, has his muzz. Next is a shot by LANCE
MERCER...group shot out in the woods, Hiro with them. Last is a group shot
with Jason....AUTOGRAPHED by Chris with a magic marker. You can't get
these pix anymore, and they're all with this press kit.
>
>Let's start the bidding at $100. Please, serious bids only! I'll take
bids until....next Sunday at noon, that's March 15. My guess is this is
one of Sg's earliest press kits.

I agree and SOMMS disk One would, technically be BadMotorFinger since SOMMS
is disk two.

i like this interpretation... it makes sense, although i almost
doubt that it is about that... but hey- i've been wrong plenty of
times and no one really agreed with my interpretation of Fresh
Tendrils either. = )
but it does make a lot of sense, if you read into it.
"stalemate machine in a tie" soundgarden gone stale to Thayil?
remember how shady he was about whether or not he "liked" the new
album's "sound" much...
"get up/get off/get one with your life" was he just damn tired of
it?
"come on/come down/come out from where you hide" this could be a
description of them all trying to hide the fact from each other that
they really didn't see much SG progression anymore, and getting angry
that none of them would really come out and say it out loud.

 as for what jen wrote:

>I also heard that the song was about Greg playing

i do know that kim did say that the song was not about computers,
but whether this is included in what he considered the question, i
have no idea...
