for those who were wondering and thought you know Soundgarden (dumb
muthafukers), when i wrote "...just music.." well it was a quote that Jeff
Ament wrote in Temple of the Dog, i didn't make it up! That's what he
believes in and i respect that thought because i worship the members from
Temple of the Dog (and i thought you's would too), they really inspired my
to do other shit and made me realise some other shit which has helped me
'spiritually' and in other ways. So it does happen to me (06z6z6y)
sometimes, but not in a way that some people have been writing about
lately, they're just freaks.

No.. it's a really bad song. It's the only Soundgarden song I dislike.

You know, this would be a much more intelligible arguement and actually worth
the time to open it if there were some reasons given rather than "this sucks,
no it doesn't". Just a thought.

Point taken and agreed with. But music for some is like religion for some
others[ as ? said......."just Jesus"....(heh heh)] It may be JUST music for
some, but for others it is a way to feel and to deal with things. Music has
given me emotions that almost NOTHING else has been able to. ITs NOT JUST
music. Since this IS stupid, that's the last you'll hear from me on it :^

Hey there,

If you were to watch Go With The Flow on Muchmusic at around 4:30 eastern, you
 would have seen
three girls in St John's request Soundgarden's The Day I Tried To Live. Seeing
 how Much play's like,
no Soundgarden after the breakup, I really want to know if those girls who
requested SG are on the list.
If you are, e-mail me...:)....if not...get on the list dammit!

Hey All !

My apologies to those who are afraid that the list will become too
serious... chill, ppl ;)
Now here's the story:
Once I was reading this review of DOTU, can't remember where. And you
know how all the SG reviews always talk about SG having borrowed their
sound from Zeppelin and Sabbath. The special thing about this review was
that it went beyond the usual Led-Clones accusation and said that SG
were influenced by Kraut-Rock music, namely The Can, when they wrote
DOTU. I'm guessing the reviewer was talking about Applebite, Boot Camp,
Tighter & Tighter - the more psychedelic songs on the album.
1) Has any of you read that review, or another with similar ideas ?
2) Does any of you know enough about Kraut-Rock (like The Can ;)) to say
the reviewer was right or wrong ? I've heard some Eloy (which is truly
great sometimes, but might not actually count as Kraut-Rock if you're
into this kind of thing) and I've heard even less Nektar (which I think
is Kraut-Rock, but not sure either). Comments any1?

BTW: if you check out some catalogs on the web, you might see the
Wellwater Conspiracy catalogued under "new psych", which is not so far
from "kraut-rock" ;)) so it's a clue ;))))

Apologies also go to those who think music is not to be catalogued and
divided into genres etc. Maybe you're right, but it's still an
interesting topic for discussion.

Ahem. Attention. This is a rant.

I CAN'T BELIEVE SOMEONE ACTUALLY HAD THE NERVE TO IMPLY THAT SOUNDGARDEN
IS "just a band"!!!!! I'm sorry to be so damn frank, but I could find no
other way to put this:

SOUNDGARDEN IS THE MOST FUCKING AMAZING BAND TO EVER PENETRATE MY
SKEPTICAL LITTLE EARS, SO ANYONE WHO TRIES TO TELL ME HOW TO FEEL WHEN
THE MOST FUCKING AMAZING BAND CALLS IT QUITS! I know It's been almost a
year; HOWEVER, that doesn't mean it's time to just let go and forget
everything they've done. The very idea of the band regrouping made my
heart jump into my throat and me almost fall on my ass, but I wasn't
sure how I felt YET. I gave myself time to think about it, and I've
decided it'd be good for ME in a selfish way, bad for me in a
compassonate sort of way, and I don't know how it'd do for them. I know
they don't give a shit about publicity, and every damn motherfucker
who's feeling MEEEEAN would accuse them of pulling a cheap publicity
stunt. But for some straaaaaange reason, I don't think Chris, Matt, Kim,
or Ben would give them much thought. They'd go on doing what they love
until they decide it's time (again) and everyone on the list has to go
thru it all again, not knowing, deep down, if it's real or not. SO, to
get back to the point (sorry for the rambler), I don't think anyone has
the privelege to tell me or anyone else on the list how to interpret
Soundgarden, the best, most fuckimg amazing band ever. Sorry bout this,
I know it's a little late, I haven't checked my mail in three days. When
I read that "shit" post, I had to say something to defend my beliefs....

I agree. I'm not going to forget about SG, and I'm not expecting anyone else
to either.

Personally I don't think anyone has been trying to tell anyone how think,
feel or interpret SG, or any other band/artist for that matter. What was
said, however, was that some of the postings lately have been like reading
about the second coming of christ and how we're all going to be saved. In
short - creepy!
I'd like to put an end to this now, since all we're going to learn is that
we all differ in our perception of the band but that we all love the music.
(Otherwise we wouldn't be on this list - right?!)

I was a bit surprised that this getting back together thread has lasted so
long, considering the source. I can understand people wishing this would
happen, but I for one would be extremely surprised if Soundgarden got back
together. There's nothing wrong with hoping, but I do think it shows a lack of
vision, since its obvious the guys (at least Chris and Matt) are moving on. I
was also a bit surprised at the nasty responses New Damage's post provoked.
Just goes to show that alot of the people posting now were not here when the
actual break up occurred.

> eventually leads you to the thought that SG have mercilessly
> fucked with the feelings of all their fans, risked having some
> disappointed fans committing suicide, and who knows what else.

This is something I've been thinking about, too, and if you were around at the
time of the break up you would understand that many of the posts WERE pretty
alarming as far as depression and despair. My thought was, "Shit, after all
the pain the break up caused...." I agree that SG don't run their careers on
fan opinion, but the feelings evoked were real and to even think that it was
all a scam just to take a break would just not wash with me. I loved them too
much, and respected them too much. And I have moved on, and am hopeful for
their respective futures. And to be honest, at this point I'm not real sure
I'd even want them to get back together.

Then someone else said:

> When i
> learned that the band had split up my reaction was "That suck!", but that
> was it. No Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or anything just a simple
> statement and then on with life.

Well, this sicko saved a bunch of the digests from that first week, and
believe me the feelings on this list were anything but simple. And some people
had a VERY difficult time with it, as New Damage tried to explain. I know you
later said that you haven't been on the list that long. There are (were)
people on this list who live, eat and breathe Soundgarden. And this list is
supposed to be a comfortable place for these people, most of whom have NOWHERE
else to talk about their obsession. And whether we agree with it or not, we
have no right to judge it.

I miss Soundgarden terribly. But I think that even if they did get back
together it wouldn't, couldn't be the same.

hey sommsters!
yes indeedie, my good friends, i stumbled onto a BMF/SOMMS tonight!!
both discs, in very good condition (i checked thoroughly) although
the cover has a few minor nicks. And i'm going to hold a drawing for
this, because i have one of these sets already, so it's up to you
guys! I paid $20 for it ($17.98 + ridiculous Philadelphia tax= $19.
24) and it'll cost ya $3 shipping ($2 something for the shipping
itself and $1 for the envelope and if you're off in never-never land
it'll run a bit more) BUTT there's one hitch: DO NOT (repeat) DO NOT
reply to this address. If you want this reply to:

NF277679@WCUPA.EDU
I'll be taking names until Monday at 7pm, and please no Somms
owners, that's not very fair. I'll announce the winner either on
Monday night or sometime Tuesday, depending on how busy I am. = )
good luck and DO NOT REPLY TO THIS ADDRESS!!!!! = ) later all,
