Whenever it comes out than I think that if we put our mind to it we can beat out the Backstreet Boys, Kid Rock and Limp Bizkit and cast enough votes to get it played on TRL. I was not telling you how to feel about the song. I was just stating what he said. I never once stated my feelings on the song, no one on this here message board has heard my feelings about the song, and i could care less if they did. Question to everyone out there... Did you once hear me state my opinion of the song????? i also never said you weren't getting it. I was just saying that to me it sounded like you were expecting a soundgarden song, cause the way you were refering the sound of CCM with any soundgarden recording, and that you were pissed off cause Chris has strayed away from the Soundgarden sound, if that is what you want to call it. You can ask me anything. Yes you are allowed to dislike the song. When did i ever say you were not allowd to dislike it???? JC: Give me proof that i said, "You are not allowed to dislike the song." and i will shut up about this topic. If you can't give me hard proof that i ever said this in any of my emails to you, then you got to shut up about this topic. Thinking of other people around at the moment doing that sort of thing, Ben Folds Five I already mentioned. Supergrass is one. Manic Street Preachers maybe. It has a sort of Britpop sound to it don't cha think? >>> well..i can hear the Beatles in there. though, that's a taken since we know they are an influence to Chris' music, aren't they? that is also noticeable in Soundgarden records. i can't agree with the rest of the bands you mentioned though. but this can be attributed that the fact that i don't really listen to these bands, only when my fave radio station plays them and i don't have any other tapes to play. Supergrass? are these the same people who came up with the video that had playing babies and being pushed around in baby strollers? if they are then i definitely won't agree about THEM sounding like Chris on CCM.i can't remember any BFF titles but from their works that i've heard..Chris isn't even close to the way they sound. same goes with MSP.....again, maybe it's just because i don't really listen to these bands...i have an idea who does though...*s - killyrbf http://fly.to/bfkill ' desolation came dragging her name as she slowly walked our floors she took away everything brandishing her crown of thorns ' --- Wolfgang. ***** Tagline 98 - V 1.1.29 Beta for MDaemon 2.7 ***** Protect Press Freedom, Support Phil. As about the drumming in Can't change me... It's good drumming, no kidding, but anyone knowing the modern drumming styles can recognize it's Matt Cameron's drumming being taken as a target and an example by Josh Freese. That's no insult for Mr.. Freese, Matt being an absolute star in modern drumming, and a real model for many a young rock musicians. But, how can a hard-core Matt fan, like I consider myself, enjoy without a bit of sadness a track played by someone copying who originally played with Chris? One instinctively asks himself "Why isn't Matt playing?". The answer comes quickly, but still it's a sad feeling. By the way the song is beautiful, and it really makes me feel like Soundgarden even more than before. Not reading Somms regularly, I was sort of carried away from SG during last months. But listening to this makes me SG-sick. Let's hope they feel like joining back again someday. Until then, let's try and enjoy what they do separately. That's all we can do, in addition to let them know through Somms and and other media that we want them back. Of course you are all entitled to your own opinions, and you can do what you want to do. But why fret over what is essentially a "practice" tour. I live in Chicago, and it pisses me off that he's passing us up, but he will almost certainly come here on his full tour, so I will wait for that. And for most of the rest of you, in the US at least, surely he will come to someplace closer to you on his full tour. Is it really that important to see him during this mini-tour, before you've even heard the album? What if you spend all kinds of money to travel somewhere far away and then HATE his new stuff. Or what if you shoot your financial wad for what may turn out to be a shorter concert (1 hour as opposed to 2) and then can't afford to attend a "real" show? Personally I have too much going on in my life to interrupt it for this. My son's birthday is Sept. 19, my kids will have just gotten back to school, my husband is starting a new job, my cat is having an operation. Now if he were playing here, I wouldn't miss it (anybody on here who knows me knows I practically worship Chris), but I certainly can't leave home for several days at that time..... Anyway, my point is, if you feel the venues are too far just settle down and wait. Every show is different, maybe seeing him after he's had some practice will be even better (remember SNL?). Wasn't he supposed to be touring Europe sometime this year too? Just give him some time...... Well, let's see. I think I will abandon my child for 3 days, run up the credit card for a flight to DC, take a trip alone to a place my loved ones have never been and want to go, my cat just died I should still be in mourning, my garden will most likely croak if I am not here to water it and the dogs will cry in their water dish for days....TOO BAD!!!! I am going to DC to see Chris and also some friends so I don't look on it as an interruption to my life only an enhancement! >I live in Chicago, and it pisses >me off that he's passing us up, but he will almost certainly come here >on his full tour, so I will wait for that. I'm sure he'll blow through the windy city and I hope Milwaukee, Indianapolis, St. louis and Stillwater! Than it's ROAD TRIP!!! >Is it really that important to see him during this >mini-tour, before you've even heard the album? I've heard Chris's voice and I love it so I will be happy to hear him sing Danny Boy if he so chooses. From what I can see the mini-tour will be in small venues. Jamie(Somms Mom) has been to the 930 club many times and says it's a great place to see and hear a show. What if his big tour is an opening act for someone??? And they play large sheds??? OH! that would not be good because than it will be an opening set. We really don't know what all of this will entail but I, for one am not taking any chances. I realize that lots of people don't have the funds nor time to travel to a show and that is understandable but if someone does have those two commodities than why shouldn't they? I think Chris is worth it and I look forward to meeting some Sommsters too! >Anyway, my point is, if you feel the venues are too far just settle down >and wait. Good advice. Seattle wasn't even on the list so we know it is far from complete. Although since Chris is "Living California" these days maybe Seattle is out! I live in Chicago, and it > pisses me off that he's passing us up, but he will almost certainly Then why be pissed off if it is "JUST" a practice tour???? Don't get me wrong here, I know there will be a full tour this fall and I hope that each and everyone on this list can make it to one of his shows. But this is a great opportunity to see Chris close up. The 9:30 Club here in DC holds about 1000 people. If you go early or stay late after the show there is a good chance you could get close to Chris. Also the same night Chris is performing here, Lenny Kravitz and Smashmouth will be performing. DC is a big pop-dance-hip hop type city. Unless Chris has another group on with him that is a big drawing name the numbers of people showing up will be down a little. It's also a good test for the management to see how Chris will stack against bigger named bands. Which brings me to a question - What other bands are playing the same night as Chris at the other shows??? Do you think they will pull from Chris's show? I'm sure Kravitz and Smashmouth will take away from it. I know it's been a long time since the pre ChicagoFest postings on SOMMs but don't you remember the sour grapes that happened then. Remember how you felt! If this mini tour had taken Chris to places I could not have gone to I would have been sad, but I would have never put out bad vibes to the people who can see the show. One last thing, I really feel Chris has been influence by Jeff Buckley. If you have Buckley's CD "Grace", play the title track "Grace", you can feel the same flow and rhythm. For those of you complaining that Chris has lost his edge, go listen to Call Me A Dog, All Night Thing, or Times of Trouble. Might I also remind you that that album was recorded between Louder Than Love and Badmotorfinger, two albums that are decidedly edgy. Bob Dylan got edgy when he plugged in, pissed his folk fans off. "Judas!" They cried. Chris could just be doing the opposite. Pissing off your fans is about as edgy as you can get. Matt, The Official Well Behaved SOMMS Posterboy ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 9 Aug 1999 14:25:46 PDT From: Monnica Lewis Subject: Re: For those.... Hey, me again. Well, I actually like most of the TOTD album. It was great however, I still don't feel that CCM is in the same "league". To me, CCM lacks musical texture and complexity. Maybe if he remixed it, I would love it. I know Chris can write GREAT SONGS. But, unfortunately, this isn't one of them IN MY OPINION. It's too early to say whether Chris has "lost his edge" since I haven't heard the rest of the album and even if I hate the rest of the album, it could just be that either he or I am going through some different phases in life and we just don't "connect" through his music at this point. I don't know. Everyone keeps "accusing" those of us who don't care for CCM of being "metal-heads" who wanted another SG album. Speaking personally, I don't think that's the case. I'm not a "metal-head" and SG was actually kind of an unusual musical choice for me but, I didn't consider them "metal" anyway. I don't understand why people get so upset or offended if you say you don't like this song. Aren't we entitled to our opinion? Just because we all like SG doesn't mean that we are or ever were identical to each other in our musical tastes. It may be the case that my FAVORITE SG songs are the ones you absolutely can't stand or vice versa. My reasons for liking or disliking a particular song are just as valid as yours. I think it is possible to respect an artist and enjoy some or most of their work without being obliged to like EVERY SINGLE THING THE PERSON DOES. I personally believe that Soundgarden's singles were always some of the worse songs on their albums (except for BMF). So that may be the case here. -RPG- ps- I remember someone on the list saying that they got a copy of Euphoria Morning already. They could shed some light on this situation and tell everyone if my little theory is correct. _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. I'd say he'd appreciate the honest feedback. Like someone said, he probably only released this song to get a reaction, because it is so un-Chris Cornell like. If that WAS his intention (and it actually seems pretty likely), then the fuss some of us a kicking up is exactly what he wanted, we've fallen into his trap. Taking that to it's natural conclusion, observing the reaction of all the people who are saying how much they love the song is even more interesting. They love a song that Chris never intended to be good. Is that what's called blind devotion? Wasn't there a Soundgarden song or two about that? Don't take this too seriously, I'm just speculatin' an hypothisis. Jay. _____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
