SITE HISTORY: SOLICITING HELP FROM THE FAN COMMUNITY
On May 9, 1994, I informed the alt.music.alternative community that I wanted to build a Soundgarden website and solicited help (I had already been working on it for a while before I got the bright idea to ask if anyone else was already doing the same thing). Soon enough, Kim Bayley jumped in the fray, and before I knew it, the site was launched.
From: Seth (saperl@mit.edu) Subject: Soundgarden Web Page Newsgroups: alt.music.alternative Date: 1994-05-09 19:06:36 PST I don't know if this has been discussed before, but can anyone tell me if there exists a Soundgarden page on the Web? If there is not, I would like to devote some time to creating one. I will need help from other interested people, though. I can supply most of the information from the existing major releases (Fopp, Screaming Life, Louder Than Love, Ultramega OK, Badmotorfinger, Satanoscillatemymetallicsonatas, and Superunknown). I also have the No Alternative compilation, which features one Soundgarden track. What I need from other people is information about bootlegs, singles, imports, and compilations (and perhaps some scanned images, though I can probably scan the images that I already have). The page should include complete discography information, as well as repositories of images and lyrics. I would also like to dedicate part of the page to whatever stories/experiences/miscellaneous people send to me. I'll be glad to keep a running list of contributors, and links to your homepages (if they exist) will be inserted if you want them. One other thing: I leave here in ten days, but I will be checking my email periodically and working on the page (should I get the necessary contributions) during the summer, so I hope to have it up and running by early September, when I get back to school and am able to put on the finishing touches. Anything you would rather get to me by ftp rather than email, can be put in the directory "C:\SGARDEN" by ftp to dsch.mit.edu, and logging in as "soundgarden". NOTE: This host will be up only for the next ten days! Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Seth Perlman saperl@mit.edu |
