Home Alive was released by Epic Records in February 1996 as a
double CD benefit album containing music and spoken-word
performances. All proceeds from sales of the compilation go to a
Seattle-based women's self-defense collective called Home Alive. The album release was
inspired by the murder of Gits lead singer Mia Zapata. Epic also
released a 13-track promo version that contained no liner and did not
include the Soundgarden song.

Soundgarden's "Kyle Petty (Son Of Richard)" was mixed by Brendan
O'Brien for the Home Alive comp, a slightly different mix than
it had for previous releases. It appeared several times as a b-side to
"Fell On Black Days" in 1995. Richard Petty was a race car
