The best NY SG show ever. The band was so on. Helter Skelter was like being made love to...rythmic, slow and orgasmic. Chris' voice was a little horase in the beginning but got better as the night progressed. It was a good crowd, except for getting an entire beer dumped over me by some anencephalic Elvis wanna-be. No set list so you can be surprised, but SG has never been better.

When I heard that my #1 favorite band in the world --
SOUNDGARDEN -- was playing Roseland, NYC I was ecstatic!!!
I've only seen them in areanas (Jones Beach and the Bayfront
Arena, St. Petersberg, FL) 1,000 miles away from the stage.
Being such an avid fan I saw them on both Friday & Saturday
night. Unfortunately for me, I got this cold/virus/flu thing
going around so I wanted to save my strength and I missed the
Tenderloin set. Rockets from the Crypt were good, kinda like
James Brown type stuff but on a smaller scale. When I arrived
at Roseland to my surprise it wasn't as crowded as it usually
gets. I sensed the crowd was friendlier and older so I placed
myself about 15-20 ft. away from center stage to avoid the
surfers and still get a decent view of the stage. I hardly
ever go into the pit but I sacrificed myself this time because
the sound is better and it seemed safe. Anyway, Soundgarden
came out and the second they started playing, the place went
wild and I was immediately christened on the head with beer
(in fact that happened both nights). Soundgarden fed my soul.....
rocked my world.....and blew down the walls....I had ear plugs
but it didn't matter cause one of them catapulted out of my
ear from all the vibrations and/or my brains rattling....
The guys were ALL TOTALLY ON!!!!! CHRIS SOUNDED FANTASTIC!!!!!
These guys are beautiful inside and out. I wish I had a
recording so I could keep replaying the concert. This was by
far Soundgarden at their best. They played alot of my favorite
tunes from the last 3 albums(basically the same set list).
When Chris came out to sing his solo Black Hole Sun, he said
yea, I'll play whatever you want and started playing the guitar
part for Hands All Over (that was cool)....but ended up singing
Black Hole Sun. Yea, I wish they played some of the earlier
stuff too, but I love just about everything Soundgarden plays.
Chris didn't talk as much to the audience on Friday as he did
on Saturday night. He warned someone not to shine the laser
pen at him. He made a comment about a certain publication who
did an unauthorized article on one of his friend's bands and
encouraged us to face the VIP section (which is a small stage
on the side, where all the industry people sit) and show them
what we thought by pointing our important finger at them.
That was pretty cool. One guy managed to get up on stage which
is almost impossible and pointed out a tattoo on his back to
Chris which was the badmotorfinger logo. He also had one on
the front I couldn't figure out and then he dove off the
stage before security could get to him. They played atleast
2 hours and ended with my all time favorite JPC with lots of
cool feedback. It was pure ecstasy. They gave it their all.
I gave it my all, too. I was dripping wet, you could ring me
out, but I survived the pit. I also lost my voice from screaming
and singing two nights and it's Tuesday, I'm here at work and
I still can't talk BUT it was definitely worth it!!!!!! I
hope Chris has a speedy recovery and no serious damage so
that all of you can experience Soundgarden at their best.
See Ya.......

Soundgarden's performance Friday night at Roseland was nothing short
of Spectacular. This was the first time I had seen them since the final two days
of Lollapalooza in Irvine. It was amazing. Tenderloin opened up to many
jeering comments from the typical NY crowd, but they still were pretty good.
Ben and Matt came out and performed a song with them. Ben played most of
the song on his knees, but then someone in the audience threw something
at him and he got mad and jumped to his feet and started flipping off the
crowd and spitting at them. After Tenderloin, Rocket from the Crypt came on and
performed a good set. The guy who sang backing vocals with them
and jumped around and danced was very annoying but luckily for us he
was only there for the first three songs and the last three.
After they left the stage it seemed like forever for the stage change
to take place. The guitar techs gave us a hint at what was to come
when they turned on the full range of speakers and amps. The sound was deafening.
Finally the lights went out, and Kim walked across the stage and
waaved to the crowd who was going berserk. The rest of the band followed
and everyone in the crowd wanted to get close to the stage. The first song
to come out was Spoonman. It was great even with Ben messing up on his lyrics.
There was energy in the air. They continued on with songs mostly dating from
Bad Motor Finger until present. Chris started to play "Hands all Over", but then he turned it into
Black Hole Sun. On stage Chris was like a God. He went off on the
Senior Editor of Rolling Stone for printing an untrue article
about one of his friends bands. He then proceeded to play Ty Cobb with the drummer from Tenderloin filling in..
The video segments were very cool also. On the big screen behind them, video
segments played during "Burden in My Hand" and before and during
"Blow Up the Outside World". Chris also got made at the noises his amp and
guitar were making, but made up a nice little story about Crossbows
being shot at him. They played a few other songs, one by Iggy Pop and also Helter Skelter.
They left the stage all too soon, after Chris threw his Fender into the air, but returned after only a few minutes.
They proceeded to play two more songs, the last of which was "Jesus Christ Pose".
It was the best version I have ever heard. There was a lot of feedback
and they just went off on their solos. It finally to an end when Chris
grabbed the mic stand and his guitar and made a cross and then threw it into the
Matt's drum set. It was the best show I have ever seen in my life. If you were
there then congrats, if not then you truly missed out on one of the
best musical performances ever.

"We're a band from Seattle"
Friday Night @ Roseland was a solid example of how far this band has come.
With a set list that did not reach it's pre-Badmotorfinger days, the band proved just how strong their newer material really is.
I must admit that I was hoping for some older material even though I've seen it played before.
On Friday night however, the band rifled through songs that I've heard too many times on the radio and gave them new life.
Blow Up the Outside World was a powerful surprise. As well as a Cornell solo version of Black Hole Sun that immediately broke into Outshined (a song that I've never seen them perform).
My real memory from the night lied in the slow cover of Helter Skelter. Chris began in low voice until he erupted with a high pitched "EVERYONE"S GOT SOMETHIN' TO HIDE EXCEPT ME AND MY MONKEE"
This moved right into Boot Camp..perfect.....that was the moment that I brought home with me.
Other highlights included...Rusty Cage, a great jam during Slaves & Bulldozers, a cover of Search & Destroy....damn near everything to speak honestly.
Interesting point in the show when Chris pointed out a Rolling Stone magazine person in the VIP section and attacked him (most likely for that piece they did on Eddie Vedder).
I had tickets for Sunday night and was dissapointed in the cancellation. It was a show worth seeing again.

Nov. 15 was the first time that I saw soundgarden and I have to
say that it was the best show I've seen in my whole 20 years
on this earth. I was a little worried at first because while
Chris was on krock he said he wasn't feeling well, but let
me tell you he sounded incredible. Roseland was electrified
as the band raged through a great set.....probably the best
show I'll ever see.

What can I say that thoes before me did not? Not much I just want to say this was one of thoes shows you see once in a life time, the energy the band put out nailed you to the spot ,I was on my toes for two hours and didn't realise it until the show ended and my legs seized up with cramps. When the roadies sound checked the bands gear it was obvious this was not going to be a night for the week of heart ,the sound these guys generated was not of this world it clean blew right through your soul, and the tension was electric from the second Ben flipped off the crowd for throwing shit at him when him and matt were playing a song with the opening act add to that Chriss telling the audienceto let Rolling Stone's editor feel their rath for writing a shitty article on one of his friends bands (vedder??).Killer sound, killer atmosphere tight as a ducks ass playing all made this a show I'll tell me grandkids about.

lucky to see friday performance in nyc. chris sounded magnificent ben is the man. crowd sucked somewhat - bandwagoneers should stay home next time or at least in the back - roseland decent venue good size or smaller would be perfect - would have loved and appreciated to hear 'tighter and tighter,' like suicide' or 'no attention' maybe next time when i have them over.

Last year, I only went to three concerts ... and
Soundgarden was, by far, the best of the bunch.
I'm not saying that because I'm on the homepage,
but because they put on one hell of a show.
I was fortunate enough to get to Roseland two
hours early; thus, I was right in the front.
Playing a small venue was a definite plus, but
having such lousy opening acts was the only bad
part of the show. Anyway, they played for nearly
two hours, and they played all of the songs that
you'd expect them to play (even medlies of "Hands
All Over" and "Say Hello to Heaven").
I was taking a shower when I heard the news. The
first thing that I thought was that one of the
band members had died. After finding out what
really happened, the news had hit me just as hard,
and it saddened me just as much. I suppose that
it would've been nice if they were still a band,
but at least I know that they're following in the
footsteps of the Ramones: if you're going to go
out, go out on top (or, in their case, 'Down on
the Upside').
